INTERVIEW WITH VLAD VRACIU – FOUNDER + DESIGNER OF LUNAR
Introduce us to your brand’s philosophy and what’s the meaning behind it?
Hello! My name is Vlad Vraciu, I am 32 years old and I am the creative person behind the LUNAR Laboratories brand. The LUNAR Laboratories brand focuses on interstellar travel, to the moon, both literally and figuratively. Literally referring to the pilots’ costumes, as well as the shapes of spaceships, and figuratively referring to the tendency to evolve and find new ways, so that I consider each collection an attempt to reach the Moon.
How do you manage the creativity process when it comes to deconstructing garments?
Having a technical background, I like to study a lot the construction and deconstruction of garments, always trying to give them a new shape. This technique is part of the creative process, being one of the emblems of the LUNAR brand and will be found in every future collection.


What was the most valuable thing you learned from your education experience?
On the one hand, I can list the fact that fashion school taught me how to correctly follow all the necessary steps to complete a collection, from the stage of inspiration to the actual production. On the other hand, school in general educated me to be persistent, serious and fair with this job.
What do you think was the biggest rookie mistake you made when just starting out?
I prepared everything so well that I have nothing to complain about, maybe a few small mistakes on the financial side, but those do not belong to the creative side.



What’s the main impact of social media in the fashion industry in both ways, fashion buying and brand awareness?
Social networks are very important, I consider them the most powerful marketing tool and I use them, but at the same time my business is focused towards retail stores and I see this way healthier from the point of view of increasing the visibility of the brand: @lunar.laboratories
Recently you showcased in Paris Fashion Week with 3RdEye Showroom. What are the challenges and the opportunities for an independent brand being based in Eastern Europe?
The LUNAR Laboratories brand is an international brand from all points of view and through this behavior we have not encountered any difficulties and the reason why we go to PFW every time is that the people present there judge the brand by the creative vision and the quality of the products, nothing else. I had a very good feedback regarding the last collection presented in Paris.
Talking about innovation + creativity, can you tell us how LUNAR makes a difference?
LUNAR Laboratories focuses on combining these 2 components, they are also the 2 main directions of the brand. I am passionate about technology and I study a lot the possibilities of combining it with fashion design.


Can you define an innovative concept in fashion and how this is part of the brand?
We are currently working on the production of a 3D printed footwear collection that will fully match the clothing pieces. In the future, we do not exclude the production of other accessories using the same 3D printing technique.
What do you think about the opportunity of selling your collections online nowadays?
I think it is a big plus and offers great help to newly established brands.
