The closer an object gets to the speed of light, that object actually experiences time at a significantly slower rate. According to Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity, matter bends the fabric of space and time. The distortion of the space–time continuum even affects the behavior of light.

Einstein had realized in 1905, that space and time, are intimately connected with each other. Thus one can think of space and time together, as a four-dimensional entity, called space–time. Each point of space–time is labeled by four numbers, that specify its position in space, and in time.

Space–time is essential in every understanding of the world. You record where they happen and when they happen: both place and time. All of physics needs to be described by place and time, but physicists calls place “space“. The most vital concept in physics (and in your diary) is that of events.
