A CONVERSATION WITH DIANA KLISARIS

When did you first realize you wanted to launch a your own label?

During the global pandemic I thought a lot about my future and where I saw myself in 10 years. I always knew that I wanted to start my own business, however, I didn’t have the courage to begin at such a young age. I wanted to gain experience within the industry and slowly work towards one day owning and running my own brand. It was during this pandemic, that showed me how fragile and inconsistent life can be and that if there was a time to do it, it was now.

If you could go back and tell yourself one thing before beginning your career what would it be?

If I could go back in time, before I launched my business, I would tell myself to ask more questions and to be more diligent before making critical business decisions. One example of this is with supplier relationships. For example, If you’re choosing a manufacturer, a public relations agency or a fabric supplier, it’s important to complete research, evaluate all options and negotiate to get the best outcome for both parties.

How do you want your clients to feel when wearing your brand pieces and in what occasions can be worn?

There is one important person, in your life, who pushes and motivates you to believe in yourself?

My partner motivates me everyday and pushes me to reach my highest potential. Without him, I wouldn’t have had the courage to start my business. He gives me sound advice, motivation and great guidance.

Describe us you as a creative in your personal life and how your feelings influence the creativity process?

From an early age I was always drawn to fashion and expressing myself through garments. This initial love for fashion was the start of my creative passion. I would describe my creative process as an emotional feeling through physical connection of vintage garments and traditional silhouettes. This process of research, where I am walking through streets interacting with vintage garments, allows me to draw inspiration and re-imagine these classic garments through the lens of Diana Klisaris. I’m driven by my emotion when designing and how the sketch or vision makes me feel. This directs my process in a unique way that works for me. It’s hard for me to describe this as it is an intangible feeling.

Would you like to involve other creatives in your future projects and what do you think is the main mission of the CO-BRANDING concept?

I’ve always thought about collaborating with other creatives and wondered who the first might be. If Diana Klisaris were to collaborate with another brand or artist, it would be important for them to have mutual values, purpose and audiences. Personally, I would love to collaborate with an influential female artist who has a similar mission of empowering women.
